A Brief History Of KK

For the past 18 years, Kevin “KK” Kerrigan has produced music for a prestigious & wildly diverse range of clients – from collaborations with the world's top recording artists, composing extensively for film and TV, and even creating a popular series of children's albums along the way!

KK began his professional career in the late 1990s, when he signed with Mercury Records (Universal) and collaborated with Blur/ Smiths producer Steven Street. In time his pioneering sound caught the ear of the legendary Brian Eno (U2/Bowie), who branded him an “alchemist", they collaborated, most notably co-producing the band James critically acclaimed album "Pleased To Meet You". Next the Icelandic singer Bjórk asked KK to collaborate with her in New York on a number of works including two of most critically acclaimed records.

Kevin then spent several years in the world of pop - working with many of the world's top chart acts such as: Dido, Britney Spears, Kylie, Sting, Craig David, Shaznay Lewis (All Saints), Will Young, KT Tunstall, Santana, Beautiful South, Yusuf Islam (aka Cat Stevens), Mediaeval Baebes and Natalie Imbruglia, and producers such as Nellee Hooper (Gwen Stefani/U2), Melanie C, Nelly Furtado, Jon Kelly (Kate Bush), Dave Stewart (Eurythmics), Rick Nowels (Madonna) and Cathy Dennis (Kylie/Britney) to name but a few.

With experience Kevin's skills became broader and more versatile, and he was soon composing soundtracks for independent films, releasing his own cinematic albums, and involving himself in an eclectic range of media productions – from musical directing circus shows (for the National Theatre and infamous London nightclub Shunt), even scoring horror game soundtrack “Raw Fear” (Re:Creation).

Kevin's real passion for music-to-picture began in the early 2000s when veteran Hollywood composer, James Newton Howard, asked KK to craft moody music beds and atmospheric sound design for the blockbuster Michael Mann /Tom Cruise thriller “Collateral”(Paramount). Since, Kevin has composed several feature films including “The Thompsons” (2012), "Holy Ghost People" (2013), "A Beginners Guide To Snuff" (2016) and "The Night Watchmen" (2016)

In 2004, Kevin and Zero 7's Sophie Barker created “Lullaby” the first of their “Rainbow Collections” children's music series for Sony Music. It became a huge success, and to date two more albums, “Toybox” & “Snowflake” have followed.

Kevin has written extensively for TV – with TV clients including: Channel 4, BBC, Discovery, UKTV, ITV, Bravo, TLC, History, Lifetime, MTV, ABC, including some hit shows such as "Stage School" (E4), "Lookalikes" (Channel 4) and "The Money Pit" (Dave). Occasionally Kevin has composed for advertising, for clients such as: British Airways, B&Q, Land Rover, Chivas, Google, Jonnie Walker, Sputnik and dnbBank (Norway).

Kevin (with Sophie Barker) is co-founder of a children's charity - The RCCF - whose projects have included work with Great Ormond Street Hospital, and community projects in rural Kenya and with the Mayan people of Central America. These projects and world travel have influenced Kevin's music, particularly music he composed for films such as “I Heart Africa” (2009) & “The Music Lesson” (2009) for National Geographic. KK has also adventured to Asia, Australasia, Europe and the Americas - these enriching life experiences adding further colour and depth to the vibrant range of flavours and humanity which hallmark his original works.

In addition to soundtracks, productions and collaborations, Kevin has released several albums as a recording artist - namely, "Solasta" (2017), "Empty World" (2011), "The Magic Lantern" (2009), and "Telescopes" (2007). Kevin is also passionate about music education and has also taught music and composition to the next generation of musicians by giving lectures at institutions such as : Guildhall School Of Music, Point Blank Music School, Middlesex University, London School Of Sound, and Academy Of Contemporary Music.

Years of proven experience running numerous, broad-ranging projects (large and small) have left Kevin with a comprehensive skill set to draw upon - with high quality composition, music production, orchestration / arrangement, sound design, sound engineering, editing, programming, team management, and mixing all now key elements of his wide creative repertoire.
